The Huckstep and Associates firm was founded in 1994, and the practice of the firm initially was concentrated in the normal CPA firm types of functions, with heavy emphasis in the NonProfit sector. Over the years, since the beginning of the firm, the Huckstep organization has experienced significant growth, both by way of organic growth, and through acquisition. Over those years, the organization has branched also into the area of Human Resource Management Services, and now supports approximately 700 clients of various types across the United States, with geographical emphasis in the upper Midwest, and functional emphasis as detailed below.


The firm is a Platinum Level business partner of Sage Software, and offers the Sage MIP Fund Accounting, Sage Abra Human Resource Management System, Sage FAS Fixed Asset Management, as well as several other companion products offered by third parties, many of whom also partner with Sage Software. The Huckstep firm positions itself as “The Source” for the nonprofit and governmental communities for their financial accounting, human resource, fixed asset, timekeeping, and compliance issues. The CPA background brings an additional measure of understanding, as well as the ability to not just implement software, but also to enhance the internal control processes over accounting and human resource information along the way. We also work diligently with client organizations and their business partners to assist them in understanding the critical compliance reasons behind the functionality of their products.


With an extensive background in the area of compliance with federal regulations, the Huckstep firm quickly realized that when they combined the Sage Abra Human Resource capabilities with the Sage MIP Fund Accounting grant management capabilities, they could provide a “Best of Breed” solution to their nonprofit and governmental clients. Nonprofit and governmental organizations that have funding through federal grants have a need not just for a financial accounting system that will handle their complex reporting requirements, but also they have need for extensive tracking of their human resource needs, and they have the need to streamline operations in the most effective manner. By combining the full capabilities of the Sage Abra Human Resource system with the top-notch wage and benefit allocation capabilities of the Sage MIP Payroll system, and bringing those two products together with tight integration, we have brought a serious tool to the market. These products provide excellent benefits to both nonprofit and governmental organizations as they continue to be required to “do more with less”.
